your social media trends and news recap for July

July 31, 2025

Overwhelmed by what trends to look at and what updates are important? Take a deep breath, sit back, and keep reading.

your July trends and news recap

From viral trends to platform updates, here’s everything you need to know to stay relevant and inspired this month. Whether you’re deep in content creation mode or just looking for ideas to sprinkle into your strategy, these trends are some of my favs. Let’s get into it:

trend alert: 'something to take the edge off'

Brands hold up their pointer and middle finger around a drink, snack, or random object, dramatically treating it like a lifeline. It's the perfect way to highlight your product or service as the thing that makes everything feel a little more manageable.

how to use it:

Highlight a product or service, your audience turns to for comfort or relief. Capture a short video of someone holding the item between their index and middle fingers-mimicking a dramatic, tongue-in-cheek gesture-paired with on-screen text that reads "something to take the edge off."

trend alert: 'you look happier'

You look happier" is the latest trend that's all over TikTok and Reels, and it's perfect for brands. It starts with the on-screen text "you look happier," followed by a dry, often hilarious response like "Thanks, I stopped checking my inbox after 5." It's quick, punchy, and great for grabbing attention.

how to use it:

To use it for your brand, post a short-form video with the caption 'You look happier," and follow it up with a funny or unexpected reason why. This is your chance to highlight a product, service, or boundary your brand stands by. Keep it short and true to your brand's voice.

TikTok update: new app?

Earlier this week, Reuters reported that TikTok is developing a standalone version of the app for U.S. users called “M2” with a separate algorithm and data system. However, TikTok has since responded, calling the report “factually inaccurate” and based on “anonymous, uninformed sources.” No further clarification was given, leaving it unclear which parts of the report are false.

how to use it:

While the news may be murky, it’s a good reminder not to put all your digital eggs in one basket. Diversify your social presence (especially on a platform like Instagram Reels).

TikTok update: bulletin boards

TikTok is testing a new feature called “Bulletin Boards,” its version of broadcast channels. Similar to one-to-many DM chats, this tool lets brands and creators share updates (like text, images, or videos) directly with their followers. It’s a new way to keep fans in the loop right inside the app. Let me know if you want a second paragraph on why brands should care or how to use it!

how to use it:

Use Bulletin Boards to announce product launches, share BTS content, or drop exclusive tips and offers.

Make sure and try one of these trends this week, your audience will thank you! If you're ever stuck, you know whose email inbox will welcome you with open arms! (It’s mine, my email inbox)
